Opinion: Could a Big Car Show Work at the Silverdome?

Over the past year+ I have wanted to put on a car show of my own, but I wanted it to be different then the other shows that you see everyday in the Summer. I want it be a hybrid show of mixing swap, car show, with entertainment. Entertainment would include live automotive contests, live bands, etc.

The Question: Would anyone show up to a show like this at the Silverdome? I recently spotted a "for rent" number on the silverdome sign and thought what a cool idea...

Since I live in Pontiac, I always felt It would be a great Idea to have car Shows @ the Silverdome. So to answer your question .............I think its a cool Idea. A SEMA car show would be cool also

Ron,

Sounds interesting. I would come up to Pontiac from Toledo to see it. Reasonable spectator admission price would be right with the Rental of the Silverdome. Money seems to be a big stumbling block for any Corporate sponsors. I am trying to locate a Classic car so I can be included not rejected like I was at the Woodward ave, Cruise. I thought that when a Car was 20 years old? It was a Historical vehicle?

I think it would be a great idea.Michigan needs a big car show it would bring in a lot of revenue.Plus it would be another big event like the dream cruse. it would be a big family event.the silver dome is a huge place it would hold hundreds of cars.growing up in Michigan I wish something like that would have been around when I was growing up. And I live in Florida now.If it turns out I mite just end up trailering my car up for the show good luck

If the Silverdome can be rented for a reasonable price and you do not have to charge more than $50.00 per car (same rate for our Detroit Autorama), 500 cars would bring in $25,000, 1,000 would gross $50,000 for the event. Swap meet vendors could bring in additional money (outside?...depends on the time of year). The hardest part is making certain you have enough committed, preregistered cars to meet the your determined break even point based on the Silverdome rental charge. Many clubs and event staging organizations have a tough time getting enough cars to come, especially to get pre-registered cars in advance of the event. The Detroit Autorama is one of the exceptions. If you can run it as effectively as Autorama, the Silverdome show could be a major area event. I would suggest contacting their team for ideas and organizational input. I would go!......

Thanks Jim for pointing this out: (the cost)
I have contacted them to find out the cost to do something there, but waiting to hear something from them. I had already had a deal with Rock Financial in Novi, it was to be after Autorama this year in April. I cancelled after the poor showing at the cruise this last year. This time I want the opinion of my community before I do anything. The space at the Silverdome allow us to get very creative. So I thought I would check into it, but ask what interest their is first. Thx.

You might want to check out the rental fee before you get to many people excited, I can't imagine it be to cost effective. Would this inside and out because of the number of cars or would it be a limited number of cars?

If the cost is a go,you can count me in to help you in what ever way you choose. Just save me a place for my Blue T-Bucket known as California Dream'n! What kind of a date were you thinking of,after the Dream Cruise or prior to. The more I think of this the better I like it. Keep us posted on your thoughts so we can help you with the right direction to make it a hit.

I think it's a great idea. Why have to wait for spring to have a car show and swap meet?

Silverdome parking lot is a great idea. I'd look to use the South side of the lot and see about playing vintage hotrod movies on the drive-in type screens at dusk :)

Regarding location and proximity to other areas, that is a factor with every event.
